federal judge in San Francisco has dismissed a lawsuit accusing Twitter of supporting the Islamic State group. The families of two men killed in Jordan claimed that Twitter had contributed to their deaths by allowing the group to sign up for and use Twitter accounts The judge agreed with Twitter that the company cannot be held liable because federal law protects service providers that merely offer platforms for speech without creating the speech itself “As horrific as these deaths were … Twitter cannot be treated as a publisher or speaker of ISIS’s hateful rhetoric and is not liable under the facts alleged” US District Judge William H Orrick wrote Wednesday The federal Communications Decency Act has long protected service providers for remarks made and actions taken by their users so Wednesday’s ruling came as no surprise But that law runs in conflict with an anti-terrorism law prohibiting support for groups like the IS The families have the option to amend and refile the case the lawsuit accuse either of using Twitter to plan carry out or raise funds for the attack Rather the lawsuit said Twitter provided “material support” in allowing the use of Twitter accounts for among teenagers according to a study “Although teen dating violence is typically viewed as a problem related specifically to adolescent development our findings indicate that the risk for aggressive behaviour and involvement in dating violence are related to stressors experienced much earlier in life” said lead author Jennifer A Livingston senior research scientist at the University at Buffalo For the study published in the Journal of Youth and Adolescence researchers evaluated 144 teenagers who had fathers with an alcohol use disorder and who had been initially recruited for study at 12 months of age By analysing data that was collected regularly over the course of their lifespan researchers were able to identify factors that led to some of the teenagers to be involved in abusive dating relationships “It appears that family dynamics occurring in the preschool years and in middle childhood are critical in the development of aggression and dating violence in the teenage years” said Livingston Mothers living with partners who have alcohol use disorder tended to be more depressed and as a result were less warm and sensitive in their interactions with the children “This is significant because children with warm and sensitive mothers are better able to regulate their emotions and behaviour” Livingston added The researcher also said that these conditions can interfere with children’s abilities to control their own behaviour resulting in higher levels of aggression in early and middle childhood “Our findings underscore the critical need for early intervention and prevention with families who are at risk due to alcohol problems Mothers with alcoholic partners are especially in need of support” Livingston said “Our research suggests the risk for violence can be lessened when parents are able to be more warm and sensitive in their interactions with their children during the toddler years This in turn can reduce marital conflict and increase the children’s self-control and ultimately reduce involvement in aggressive behaviour” For all the latest Lifestyle News download Indian Express App More Top NewsWritten by Swati Mahajan | Chandigarh | Published: held “As a general principle the Assistant Nursing Superintendent (ANS)/ Deputy Nursing Superintendent (DNS) would be entitled to 3rd MACP with grade pay of Rs 6600 since as ANS/DNS they were serving in the pre-revised scales of Rs 6500-10500 and Rs 7500-12000 that were revised as Rs 15600-39100 + G P of Rs 5400 with effect from January 1 2006 Share This Article Related Article However the individual cases of the applicants would have to be examined as to whether the individual is entitled for third MACP keeping in view the number of promotions that they had got during the period of service rendered by them and whether they had stagnated in their pay scale as ANS/DNS for 10 years and hence were eligible under MACPs for third financial upgrade on completion of 30 years of service” It added “We also observe that first application regarding the issue was filed in 2014 The applicants were allowed the financial upgrade under MACP in GP of Rs 6600 on March 28 2014 and the same was withdrawn by the respondents with office dated November 24 2014 It does appear that the matter was under the consideration of the respondents since March 2014 In the case of Delhi Nurses the arrears Madrid is just looking to keep its momentum when they play city rival Atletico on Saturday (Source: AP) Top News The leaguederby against Atletico Madrid marked a turning point for Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid The disappointing home defeat in February was the last time Madrid lost a game in the league It rebounded from that 1-0 defeat at the Santiago Bernabeu by going on a streak that culminated with the club lifting the Champions League trophy – in a final against Atletico – and contending for the league title until the very end Madrid won 12 straight after the loss erasing 11 points off Barcelona’s lead and finishing only one point from the title This time Madrid is just looking to keep its momentum when it plays city rival Atletico on Saturday Madrid arrives at the derby in a much better position than previously holding a two-point lead over Barcelona and a six-point advantage over Diego Simeone’s Atletico which needs the victory to avoid losing more ground to the rivals Atletico led the league until losing two of its last three games to drop to fourth in the standings Atletico has won four league games in a row at the Vicente Calderon stadium but it will be facing a Madrid team that has thrived away from the Bernabeu having scored 20 goals in its last four away games in all competitions Madrid isn’t getting over-confident however “The next game will be a tricky one like they always are against Atletico” Real Madrid defender Nacho Fernandez said Madrid’s only loss since the league game against Atletico last season was at Wolfsburg in the Champions League in April It remains unbeaten since then with 21 wins and seven draws in all competitions It has won four straight in the league and is the only team in the top tier not to have lost this season Succeeding at the Calderon may be especially difficult this time as Zidane has been dealing with injuries to some of the team’s top forwards Alvaro Morata who scored three goals in his last three games with Madrid is out because of a hamstring injury sustained with Spain’s national team and it remains unclear if Karim Benzema will overcome a lingering hip problem The coach may have to change the team up front or use some of his reserve players to fill the attack along with Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale Among Zidane’s options on offense are Lucas Vazquez and youngster Mariano Diaz Other Madrid players uncertain to start Saturday because of injuries include defender Pepe and defensive midfielder Casemiro In better news for Zidane midfielder Luka Modric will likely make his first start since undergoing a surgical procedure on his knee almost two months ago and defender Sergio Ramos also is expected to play after his own knee problems Midfielder Tony Kroos remains sidelined because of a foot injury Simeone meanwhile still doesn’t know if he will be able to count on forward Antoine Griezmann who is nursing a knock to his left foot sustained with France’s national team in a World Cup qualifier last week The forward has a good chance of playing after tests early in the week ruled out a serious injury Madrid and Atletico drew 1-1 the last time they met at the Calderon the Public Works Department (PWD) pertaining to permissions and repair works has left the projects in limbo While the forest department officials have said that they had given the permission for road carry out the work However we are filling up potholes on this stretch using cement’’ he said Interestingly the entire work was to be completed last year Ahead of the rains another reason for worry is the area being prone to landslides and the necessary safety nets not in place Both the departments maintain that the nets too could not be completed this year The proposal was to fix the safety nets at seven to eight spots that are vulnerable to landslides and have witnessed instances of loosening of boulders during heavy showers Last monsoon the PWD had chosen to close the ghat for vehicular
